Canceled

Depending on the generation and period in time, if you were speaking of an entertainer or show you might point out how they or it was "canceled." Long before the age of the internet and social media, this would simply mean there would be no more episodes of that show. Now, well into the age of social media, it essentially attempts the same thing. On it's functional level, someone or some group of individuals agreed for whatever reason, an aspect of media is to be prevented from continuing. A show's ratings are low and the investment in continuing more episodes no longer seems economically viable. An entertainer has gone against the grain of the zeitgeist- a similar fate is directed at the platform they utilize. In a so-called 'free market' and meritocratic system, this phenomina would seemingly occur on it's own as a function of eyeballs and demand. It would stand to reason the surviving media would appear to be of higher value either as entertainment or i...

Million Dollar Madden

I hope if someone takes some of my ideas and makes a ton of money from it, they at least credit or throw a tip. I don't wanna sit on a good idea like smaug and I don't have the time to even find who / where to post such a thing, but when inspiration strikes, I thought I'd put it out on the interwebs. For whatever reason the algorithm gave me a series of football terminology clips on my FYP. One in particular was Drew Brees (former quarterback of the New Orleans Saints) explaining play call terminology on a talk show culminating in him calling the play, in all it's complexity, with verbal quickness. The portion of it that would appear to be impressive, is the tight window of time he has to do it. Given that AI has advanced so much to not only have very effective speech recognition, but also create a world of NPCs that are ever less NPC-ish (in a traditional game sense), I have an idea for the next generation of madden games. This combined with the era we live in with gam...

True vs Valid

Another very nuanced, but majorly important blog topic that will take a series to properly outline is the difference between True & Valid (or Facts). I've had some eye-opening realizations watching human behavior as a result of operating social media accounts with sizable followings. Seeing in real-time somebody incorrectly conclude something, and then utilize that faulty conclusion as the foundation for a series of responses.  In mathematics, while outlining valid manipulations to equations to take steps towards potential solutions, entry-level algebra will teach you that you can divide a value to one entire side of an equation so long as you repeat that exact process to the other side. So, for example, if you are attempting to solve 2x = 4x you might decide to divide both sides by 'x' and resulting in something that doesn't make any sense 2=4 or a false statement. Your parameters you were given were valid, as were apparently your steps. Up until this moment this p...

Operating Constructs

Correlation does not equal causation. If you're ever looking for a good laugh, look up spurious correlations. Life can be hilarious and statistics can make it even funnier. For example the popularity in the name "Gerad" appears to follow the air pollution levels in Anchorage, Alaska. Do people who name their babies Gerad, celebrate by sitting idle in their cars or startup coal companies? Not likely. But if you're so included, you could make that conspiracy claim. Hopefully I don't lose anyone in nerd speak, but I want to get into the concept of using an 'operating construct.' Often times people need something to be true before they sign up for following it. Does Santa Clause really bring you better gifts if your behavior is better? No. But it certainly appears to be the case if your behavior-gift quality correlation results in a bountiful Christmas morning. For some, knowing Santa isn't real will alter their behavior, for others they will dig to find ...

A Game Within A Game

My first encounter with the notion of video game speed running was one of annoyance and disdain. I have a disposition for a strict adherence to following rules & order so when I saw complete disregard for the game designer's vision in exchange for an appearent cheapening of gaming it bothered me. Like that time an African village was given a set of iPads for education and they were just used as cutting boards.  As is the case with many situations online, making it through potentially misunderstood first impressions often pays off. As I dug deeper i discovered modding communities and game programmer challenges. These games I grew up playing, now being torn apart to their virtual atomic level and reimagined through the eyes of autism. I was hooked. This stuff was borderline, if not completely art. Creativity & true inspiration are my clickbait hooks and I found a new obsession. Creating games within games, creating new worlds as remixes of old ones- and documenting the proces...

Agent Smith Syndrome

Matrix analogies have certainly approached critical levels of potential overuse, but when something is true, it's true. In the movie 'The Matrix' a group of individuals who have already awoken to the true nature of their reality and returned to the universal simulation the vast amount of humanity engages in, they are subject to certain dangers in that simulation. One of these dangers being, that any person who is still "plugged in" has the potential, at any moment, to turn into Agent Smith. For those unfamiliar with the movie, and for the purposes of this post, I will oversimplify Agent Smith as a defense mechanism for the simulation. If we think back to a time when 'conspiracy theory' was a pejorative and certainly not as main-streamed as it appears to be today, often engaging in pointing out obvious flaws in an official narrative might get you some push back. In certain cases borderline vicious pushback. Two prominent examples being entertaining valid po...

A Wacky Presidential Conspiracy Theory

Off the top, for the normies, I have to point out there's a difference between a claim, a conspiracy theory with a high (ish) level of probability and then an interesting thought with anecdotal correlations. This is neither of the first two.  There is an alleged Presidential curse (Curse of Tippecanoe) that those elected in a year that ends with a 0, are not able to finish their time in office, usually due to death. Given that Presidential elections are every four years, to land on a year that ends in 0, it requires a 20 years cycle. As such hear are the corresponding Presidents elected in a 0 year that had, lets say, "issues".  1840 - William Henry Harrison - Pneumonia 1860 - Abraham Lincoln - Assassinated 1880 - James A. Garfield - Assassinated 1900 - William McKinley - Assassinated 1920 - Warren G. Harding - Heart attack 1940 - Franklin D. Roosevelt - Cerebral hemorrhage 1960 - John F. Kennedy...

Look at What You Draw

Really resisting the urge to chime in on the mudslinging happening on social media regarding the fallout since the Antarctica Flat Earth situation but I can't resist pointing this out-  All of you pro-globe people drawing triangles to prove your point... A triangle is flat on all three sides.  Take as much time as you need with that one. When you're ready to try to prove the globe, you might wanna start using S=r*theta. -Codd

2025 - The Year of Boys

Anecdotal of course, but speaking at to nurses during checkups- as well as friends locally, apparently there has been a string of exclusively male births. Then the trend is slated to continue because everyone who is pregnant in our friend's network and on the cue at the hospital are also males. No, gravy or theories. Just thought it was kind of cool.  -Codd

Morning Coffee Thoughts On Societal Stages - Parental Reflections

Since becoming a father I analyze (and maybe sometimes over analyze) developmental stages & milestones of a developing child. You revisit & see in a new light, the old stories in a new light- like how a Heavenly Father might view His children. How He might have expectations, set boundaries, etc. I also think about how resistance & limitation is slowly introduced as they grow. Nurturing a child's creativity so they build confidence and stay joyful in an activity is important- as is setting the boundaries for those activities. Finger painting is awesome. Finger painting the couch? Not so much.  And as they enter into the "let me do it" phase, they start to be introduced to their own limitations & strengths. It's a fine line nurturing the inspiration of anything being possible, with the responsibility of what is off limits.  I'm starting to see parallels on a macro level with humanity and history. Creativity without responsibility-certainly the kind r...

Gulf Of America

Who knew America was the one who named the water between the south eastern United States and Mexico? Apparently Donald Trump knew because he just announced the name will be changed from 'The Gulf of Mexico' to 'The Gulf of America' - which, all politics aside actually does audibly sound better.  I don't plan to regularly cover politics because, speaking of saturation (previous blog post), there is no shortage of that online. However on occasion if the Trunqster does something funny, or motivated my Merica! side I can't help but make note.  Case in point the upcoming 250th American birthday bash- of which I plan on doing a full series on. Good times. -Codd

Conspiracy Saturation

I'm all for gravy. The best kind. But not the poorly constructed recipes of nonsense & story telling. Allegedly the term "conspiracy theorist" was coined as a way to marginalize anyone who was skeptical of the official story behind JFK's assassination. With the number of major media outlets totaling something you could count on one hand, a slip of disclosure on JFK or any topic behind held from the public, required swift & thorough action. For a time during COVID, I personally thought that was one of the main objectives for "slowing the spread" (of information) for "viral" transfers of rapidly escaping truth. However the stark contrast between the tightly controlled media outlets of the 1960s with the vast outlets of information channels (broadcast tv, cable tv, internet tv/streaming, radio AM/FM, CB radio, podcasting, social media, print media, virtual periodicals, etc) there have long since been too many points of failure to maintain the o...

Supply & Demand

Someone I know who's made the jump from military service to private security has mentioned the recent United Health Care CEO event has sparked beefed up security for anyone who happens to find themselves at the top of large companies.  Indicative of a larger trend? Over reaction? It's still early in the 1st quarter of this grabbler football game, but it does appear to be the silver lining for those who work in private security.  -Codd

Go Bears!

Yes I'm aware the games may be fixed and it's entertainment- but I'd be lying if I said it isn't a good day when the Chocago Bears beat the Greenbay Packers. Not just because the historic rivalry, but in particular because it feels like it's been forever since it's happened. I won't be going full WWE fan "it's still real to me damnit!" but it's still fist pump worthy. Go Bears -Codd

Slander/Libel Laundering

A little birdy told me, through the telephone, that he heard through the grapevine you have a scarlet letter.  If I were so motivated to disrupt an event of a public figure I thought was 'the bad man' I could whip up the following recipe that is apparently fool proof- Step one: whip up some nonsense article that alludes to a zeitgeist terror trigger about said public figure. (make sure not to go beyond alluding, so it isn't libel). 10 seconds before you publish, send an email asking for comment but then include at the end of the article they wouldn't respond. Step two: Update their Wikipedia with "...has been accused of" with a source link that is hot off the presses. Step three: Call venue of your new obsession & pressure them to cancel based on "wHaT iS wRiTTeN aBoUt" them. Extra points if the scary info is newer. For some reason that's the secret sauce. Step four (if needed): If the venue holds strong or isn't convinced; try step three...

(New?) Genres Of Comedy

Hopefully TikTok survives the beyond the next two weeks, if nothing else- it's one of the last, somewhat meritocratic art space for short-form comedy. Once Vine, then old YouTube and now TikTok.  One style I enjoyed watching, (which to my knowledge wasn't given a name) was what I'm coining "Template Comedy." TikTok is notorious for taking part in trends where it's very monkey-see-monkey-do. However, on occasion, you will come across someone taking part in said trend, but only in it's templated-form. That is to say, they don't do their own unique take or artistic signature, but rather speak as if they were an empty madlibs with directions.  Honorable mentions for other genres/styles include 'Meta' and '4th Wall Breaking' comedy. This will also occur in trending virtual skits, but is certainly not limited to them. Well into taking part in a trend, while also alluding to the fact the creator is purposefully trying to take part in the trend...

It's Always Too Soon To Tell

Maybe Yes, Maybe No - Who's To Say? Seasons, weeks, days & nights are cyclical, but stories are arcs. As the parable of the Farmer's Son explains, each life event has the potential to direct circumstances. Was the moment that just happened a signifier of something bad? Or was it the catalyst necessary to get to a greater good? In the moment it may be painful or blissful, but has it fully played out yet? The answer is it's always playing out on how you take it. Always turned into or not turned into whatever (current) 'end' result- by choice. External interpretation & nay-sayers be damned. For everything that has ever happened has had a moment when it had never happened before, right before it did.

The People Vs Elon Musk

How many times are you going to think the football is kickable, Charlie Brown? For those unaware, Elon Musk has begun following the same protocol of shadow bans, debanking and outright removal that he allegedly used to rail against. It's almost as if the ones shouting how they can be trusted with the ring of power, behave the same way everyone before them did- even in a MAGA hat. The answer is and has always been to build & grow your own platforms. Even if Elon was once the hero people believed he was, (jury still out & not looking good) it's infantile to think he would then never take a ticket. In Elon's case, cashing in said ticket- where he uses his ability to manipulate the platform he bought, for his own goals.  Here's the next level though, there's nothing wrong with that. It's actually on you for falling for it. The only hope, however waning, is for Charlie Brown to play football elsewhere.  -Codd

And Then There Were Two (Posts)

Predictions for 2025.  History doesn't repeat but it certainly rhymes.  On one hand it would appear we're in a time when A.I. & targeted analytics will take our engagement to feed us back our own desires in the "news"- and on the other hand there still appears to be an element of stimulation testing where what is put on the "news" is to shape a narrative to move mass consciousness. Maybe it's both. A manipulative two step. Either way, what matters most is where you put your thoughts & actions. I initially expect 2025 in the political realm, to rhyme with, and look earily similar to, events in 2017. That being said, the push for a "golden age" vibe does open the door for some great possibilities. Very much looking forward to engaging with & paralleling the world's fair plans for America's 250th. -Codd

Happy New Year

New year, new me? Many musings go unrecorded. Reflections, predictions and innovations. It's time that changed.  First post & test post.  Happy 2025. -Codd
